ArtSeed 2012 Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary Tribute ArtSeed and the Golden Gate: 75 Reasons Why We Are The Bridge! Culminating Exhibition Location:Thoreau Center for Sustainability Galleries Dates: Opening Reception: Thursday, July 5 2012, 5-7pm Closing Reception: Sunday, July 29 2012, 3-5pm. Lastyear's maritime theme for ArtSeed's programming and exhibition flowsnaturally into this year's celebration of the 75th Anniversary of theGolden Gate Bridge. Children, teachers and practicing artists will giveform to their ideas using the bridge's history and structure as aspringboard to explore identity and mastery - the making of things withexpert skill and knowledge. ArtSeed projects in classrooms, theart-a-thon and studio apprenticeships will also reflect on how tourismand community landmarks frame who we are individually and globally, aswell as in relation to each other and to the earth that sustains us. ArtSeed's missionis to connect diverse communities by bringing artists into the lives ofchildren, especially those living with financial setbacks or otherchallenges. Rigorous interdisciplinary Fine Arts projects in classrooms,collaborative exhibitions and long-term studio apprenticeships aim toinspire academic and professional achievement, self-betterment and anever-expanding sense of belonging. Partnerships:ArtSeed Apprenticeship Program, Sherman Elementary School, Leola HavardEarly Education School, Thoreau Center for Sustainability, Hunters PointShipyard and other artists' Studios. Scholarships available.) 1) ArtSeed Earth Week Art-a-thon:10am-8pm, Saturday, April 21, 2012, This annual event combineselementary school aged students, teens, adults and seniors in a 10 hourart-making marathon to benefit ArtSeed's outreach to students withspecial needs. 2) Bayview Hunters Point Shipyards Fall and Spring Open Studios:October 29 & 30 2011, and April 28 & 29, 2012 (each weekendboth Sunday and Saturday, 11am-6pm) Young artists learn how to presentart, plan reception details and implement installation, speak toprospective patrons and manage business aspects from sales of their art.They also can elect to retain a commission from sales of art. 3) Artist Studio Apprenticeships and After School Art Lessons:One-on-one and small group studio apprenticeship sessions for studentsand classrooms interested in working on a project with artists from theBayview Hunters Point community and beyond. Year-round and long-termcommitment with culminating summer events. 4) ArtSeed Fine Arts Intensive:Monday, June 25 – Friday, June 29, 2012. A one-week 9am-5pm portfolioand project-building workshop for ten students (10-18 year-olds) withfive artists including professional teaching artists and distinguishedguest presenters.
