Shu Wang

No matter how frustrated and disappointed she feels, Shu always keepstrying to overcome obstacles in her life. Even when she came with herparents to a world where there is both a language barrier and culturedifferences that could prevent her from reaching her goals, Shu hasnever lost faith in trying to overcome the challenge. Not knowing aword of English, Shu tried to learn a little more and more everydayabout this whole new world, for she believed that her perseverancewould eventually crash down the walls of this barrier. In a shortperiod of time, Shu was able to express herself effectively and involveherself in her community. Through her experience of overcomingchallenges in the new world, Shu believes that her perseverance intrying will help her overcome any obstacles coming her way. With thedesire of learning, Shu is ready to take on all the challenges andlooks forward to finding her true passion at Wesleyan.

Growing up in China, Hong watched her parents struggle to make aliving. She vowed to help people like them when she grew up. Althoughlife in China was difficult, her parents taught her to be the best shecan be and that anything is possible. Under these encouraging words,Hong takes a rigorous curriculum at school and aims high. She isinvolved in her community through Key Club and Youth United. She isalso very passionate about math and is the president of the Math HonorSociety, hoping to spread appreciation and enthusiasm regarding matharound the school. Shu came to America two years ago. Those two years seem to be the firstbig turning point in her life. She learned a lot of things other thanEnglish while struggling to adjust to her new life in America. Life hasnot been easy, but she learned to look at the bright sides of theproblems. She has become a stronger person, both mentally andphysically. She has changed a lot since she first arrived in America;but one thing for sure never changes, her optimistic attitude. Shewants to thank QuestBridge and Wesleyan University, which make herbelieve that nothing is impossible if she puts enough effort. Born and raised by a single mom in New York City, Hyo Jeong Lee wentthrough tough times as a child. Her mother was constantly at work soher grandmother raised her to be the smart young woman she is today.Being raised in New York City enabled her to be open to appreciatingdifferent cultures and people. This appreciation led her to participatein different multiracial volunteer programs. Her dreams and aspirationsare to become a doctor, specifically a surgeon. She appreciatesQuestBridge for giving her this wonderful opportunity to growintellectually and hopes to become a successful person and help reachout to others in need.

Christian understood what it meant to be self-motivated by the age oftwelve. Leaving his family behind in Taiwan, Christian was determinedto get an education in the United States. Even though Christian has thesupport of his relatives, he has been working ever since he was sixteenyears old to pay for his own expenses. Given his parents' financialhardships, Christian is determined to use his education to help hisfamily and give back to the world. Christian loves independent studieson subjects such as physics, biology, and calculus. He is the headengineer for his school's solar boat team and vice president of theMayor's Youth Council; he is also involved in Key Club and othercommunity service clubs on campus. Looking back at his high schoolcareer, Christian is appreciative for the opportunities he was givenalong the way. Although it has not been an easy journey, all his effortand hard work have earned Christian admission to the University ofPennsylvania through QuestBridge. The journey has only begun
